Welcome Minimize

Welcome to the Edmund de Moundeford Primary School website.

We are a Primary school catering for children aged 4-11 years old. Our school is located in the beautiful village of Feltwell, Norfolk. We have a strong link with the local community, including the Church and the Edmund de Moundeford Trust which has very generously donated many resources to us.

Edmund de Moundeford Primary School is proud that we help each individual child to be the best that they can be. We are lucky to have caring, friendly, committed staff and governors. We want all our children to be happy, safe learners who try their best and enjoy achieving highly in many different skills.

Our curriculum is fun, exciting and relevant to prepare children for the type of skills that they might need in tomorrow’s future. We can offer a wide range of resources from an extensive field, our own indoor swimming pool to our Learning Resources Centre, complete with sixteen computers that can be folded away when not in use.

We are very proud of our 2010 Year 6 SATS results. We were one of only 7 schools in the whole of Norfolk where all the children achieved level 4 in both English and Maths. We were joint fifth for Average Point scores out of 303 schools. Our results also showed that the children did not start with such high levels but instead made great progress as they went through the school.
We are equally proud of the many other achievements that reflect the rich and varied provision we are able to offer at our school. Since 2006 we have held the national Active Mark. This award is in recognition of the wide variety of sporting activities and clubs which we offer. We have a strong sporting tradition, while in recent years have begun to explore our fenland heritage through Molly Dancing. As part of this we have named our Key Stage 2 classes after local fenland characters and our Key Stage 1 classes are named after fenland insects .
We encourage both pupils and staff to be healthy and hold both the Healthy Schools Award and the Norfolk Staff Wellbeing Logo. We also hold the School Achievement Award and Financial Management Standard in Schools.

We strongly encourage mums, dads and carers to take an active role in our school. We have a supportive Parent Teacher Association which works tirelessly for the benefit of the pupils. If you are interested in enrolling your child at our school we would be delighted to show you around and answer any queries you may have.

Aims of the school Minimize

We believe that the underlying philosophy of Edmund de Moundeford School should be to provide the best possible basis for the job of living more than for just a job in life.

1.Our overall aim is to develop the whole child is to develop the whole child in
an environment where the child can grow in confidence and self-respect.

2.We endeavour to provide an appropriate and high standard of education for all
pupils.

3.We aim to treat children as individuals and respect to their educational needs

4. We aim to give the children every opportunity to develop their potential to the
full.   We aim to create a desire for learning and produce lively enquiring minds, developing the talents of the children according to their abilities.

5. We aim to develop the children’s awareness of the local community and of the part they, and the school, can play.

6.We aim to teach children to be sensitive to the rights and responsibilities of all members of society.

7.We aim to teach children to respect others, and to foster self-respect.

8.We aim to equip the children to make the best use of the opportunities that will arise in their future education and in adult life.

9.We aim to provide opportunities for pupils to reflect upon and appraise their own work, to identify goals for further progress and to make appropriate choices.

10.We aim to involve children’s families in supporting the school’s objectives and the pupils’ learning.

11.We aim to encourage children to work and play co-operatively.

12.We aim to provide all children with a wide range of learning experiences – extending beyond the requirements of the National Curriculum.

The Curriculum at Edmund de Moundeford School is being developed continuously.   As a result, schemes of work have been developed that not only meet the requirements of the National Curriculum, but just as importantly match the needs of our pupils.

It has been agreed by the Governors of our school, that the aims developed by the staff, and listed in our Curriculum Guidelines, should form the basis of our work in the classroom.  Implementation of these aims and future development is monitored by the Governors.

The Governors have also supported the linking of these specific aims to the wider educational aims of Children’s Services in Norfolk. Norfolk LA have established some foundation principles of Education which embrace not only our established aims, but go on to promote pupil independence in the learning situation, and thorough monitoring and assessment of the Curriculum.  Details are contained in the Norfolk County Council publication “A Statement of Policy for the Curriculum, 5-16”.  This is available at the school for reference, as are the school’s Curriculum Guidelines.

Facilities at the school Minimize

The school is well maintained and in good decorative order.   There are seven permanent classrooms, a large hall, a separate canteen, a library and a fine indoor heated swimming pool built from funds provided by the De Moundeford Trust.   All these buildings are set in attractive grounds which include an extensive playing field with every facility for football, cricket, athletics and other sports.

The hall has a large stage and was refurbished in 2006 with new lighting and heating. It is generously equipped with P.E. apparatus, with portable block staging and stage lighting provided by the Parent Teacher Association. There is a kitchen/canteen which provides midday meals, where packed lunches are also eaten. Toilet and cloakroom facilities are housed in both the KS1 and KS2 corridors.

At the Key Stage 1 (KS1) end of the school there is an art area and a food technology area. At the Key Stage 2 (KS2) end of the school there is a science area and a technology area. These areas are comprehensively furnished and contain extensive equipment and materials. All these improvements were made possible by a partnership between the Norfolk Education Authority and the Edmund de Moundeford Trust.   In 2008, the Edmund de Moundeford Trust provided our Learning resources Centre with a bank of 16 computers in foldaway desks to go along side its wide and ever growing selection of fiction and non-fiction books.  Furthermore, the school has interactive whiteboards in every class and a wi-fi network.

Edmund de Moundeford charitable trust

The school is very grateful to the Trust for its generous support.   In September 1980 the Trustees presented the school with a new indoor swimming pool and in 1992 it funded many of the improvements to the toilets, changing rooms, science, art, technology and cookery areas in the school.   In 1996, a new library building was completed, and this also doubles as a comfortable meeting room (expanded in 2008 with 16 foldaway PCs.   Over the years the Trust has provided the school with books, computers, a photocopier and other educational equipment.   Most recently, major structural work in the swimming pool has been undertaken by the Trust.   The completion of the necessary improvements to the school would not have been possible without the Trust’s support.

History of the trust

In 1642 Sir Edmund de Moundeford left some land in the newly drained Fens at Feltwell Anchor, the rents and income to be used for the benefit of the residents in the Parish of Feltwell.   The terms of the Trust were for furthering of education and the relief of the poor in the area of benefit.

In 1904 an Order in Council supported by the Trustees, Charity Commissioners and the Board of Education formally separated the Educational Foundation from the Almshouse Charity under a new scheme.   This gave the Trustees of the Educational Foundation a wider brief in the field of education including awarding Scholarships and Bursaries tenable at any school, University or places of learning.

The Education Foundation Trustees continue to follow the terms of reference within the Scheme of 1904.

In 1836 the ‘Little School’ was built for the education of boys in Feltwell.   In 1866 the ‘Big School’ was built by the Trustees as an Elementary School for boys and girls from 7-14 years.   The ‘Little School’ becoming the ‘Old Infant School’.   This school is still owned by the Trustees and leased to Feltwell W.I.   The larger ‘Old School’ was sold and is to be refurbished into living accommodation..   A major source of income is farm rents.
